Whittier July 1st - July 2nd
We never did get to Palmer, the RV Park was west of there. We will go through there on our way home.
Once you are past Anchorage, the mountain views are again magnificent.
The tunnel direction changes every half hour, on the hour leaving Whittier and on the half hour going. A train had just gone through when we arrived, so our time was 12:40. Less that a half hour wait. The tunnel is 2.5 miles long, ti takes about seven minuets to get through at the posted 25 mph. For a single vehicle, it costs $11. for us it was $22, return. At one point of the drive, it was raining quite hard, it was slowing down the closer we got to the coast.
Our view from the campsite.
Low and behold, the sun started to shine as we got to Whittier. Some pictures of town.
Most of the town folk live in this building.
Left over from the war days, abandoned. Apparently, it would cost to much to retrofit it or tear it down, so they just leave it.
July 2nd, we went on a Glacier Cruise, 12:45 to 4:45. Again, we got lucky, calm and sunny, about 15 deg but nice in the sun. We can not believe how lucky we have been with the weather. The cruise was great, as was the scenery.
Our boat.
Some random pictures of our Glacier cruise.A Humpback we saw along the way.I did manage to get the last of a Glacier calving event.
One more.
Photo bombed the Glacier.Whittier from across the bay.
It was starting to get cloudy but it was a great day. The price of the tour was $495.00 Can. We did get lunch included.
Because of the July 4th holiday, we are staying put for a few days.
Next up, a day trip to Seward.
