Whitehorse July 9th - 14th
Yes, Whitehorse, not where we had planned but plans are always fluid on a trip like this. Our first stop after Soldotna was Bird Creek SP, just south of Anchorage, then we planned togo to Glennallen the next day. We knew of a campground just out of Glennallen that we would stop for the night. We got there and the gate was closed and I had already pulled off the road. Luckily, there was little traffic and I could back onto the highway with no issues. There was another park about halfway between Glennallen and Tok, we get there and it was closed, so we ended up just south of Tok at Eagle Trail Lake SP for the night. That was a long day, we normally try to keep our travel time to 2.5 to 3 hours, that was almost 8. Next day we head for the border at Beaver Creek. Just before the border the TPMS alarm goes off, rats another flat. That's one going into Alaska and one coming out. When I got the valve stem replaced, I did not put that tire back on, I left the spare on. It looked good, it had never been used but I guess it was too old to like the rough roads on the way out of Alaska.
The boarder crossing went smooth and we headed for Snag Junction and we did find a site there. Now we just had to get past the very rough road from Snag Junction to Destruction Bay with no spare, Whew, made it. Our next stop was Pine Lake PP, just past Haines Junction, nope full. And that is why we got to Whitehorse so soon.
This is between Anchorage and Glennallen, Matanuska Glacier.
Somewhere along the way.Getting fuel in Tok.
We googled Kal Tire In Whitehorse and the website said they were open till 6:30 Friday, nope closed at 5:00. We got there at ten after five. Sat. morning we went looking for tires. Ended up at Fountain Tire, we now have a new spare. If we have no more tire problems, I will buy a couple of new ones when we get home. A hair cut for me and an oil change for the truck and the quilt shop for Pat (she actually bought something!).
Today, Sun July 14th, groceries, fuel and propane. We have been going through a far amount of propane, as the weather has not warmed up a lot. 10 to 12 at night and mid to high teens during the day. For sure the furnace in the morning and usually in the evening. There has only been a few days that we have sat outside in the sun. Mostly too chilly.
We saw very few animals in Alaska, two bears, four moose and two porcupines. This guy was on the road to Homer.
Tomorrow we head for Teslin Campground, we will sit there for a while to unwind, as long as it's not pouring. After the rough roads, I need to go around and tighten up many screws and such.

Lots of steaks on that guy!!!
