Dawson to Delta Junction. June 20th - 23rd.

Top of the World Hwy is not what I would call a relaxing drive. Mostly gravel, with a mixture of pot holes, wash board and frost heaves on the paved parts. The first part is pretty good gravel and fairly wide. You have to watch for wash board as it can get you sideways pretty quick.

Lets start with leaving Dawson on the ferry. It was loading this machine on the other side when we got to the landing and the boat could only take him and no other vehicles, so our wait was not long.

A quick on, across and off. Up, Up, Up the road we went. About an hour into the drive, my tire pressure monitoring alarm sounded. Now what, a broken valve stem is what. Quickly to the top of the hill before we lost all pressure. Now to put on the spare.

There was no more drama till we hit customs. We were prepared, got rid of all fruits and veggies, no fire wood and made sure any meat was compliant. The border guard says "Where are you headed" "Kenai Peninsula" "Any fire wood" "No" "Have a nice stay" "Thanks" and we were on our way.
Some cloud formations.

This one right over our heads.

The weather for the most part has been nice, twenty plus in the afternoon and around ten at night, Still have to put on the furnace in the morning.

We stopped for the night a Walker Fork Recreation site.

Next morning we headed for Chicken.

Walker Fork to Delta Junction.

There is not much else in Chicken.

Our trip from Walker Fork to Tok, were I got the valve stem replaced, was uneventful. I now have a spare tire again.

We are now in Delta Junction, time to restock the refrigerator.

This marks the end of the Alcan, 1422 miles. There is supposed to be a commemorative marker at the visitor centre but we cannot find it. Not sure if we are not seeing it or it is down for repair. Maybe we will go back out this afternoon and ask at the visitor centre. I did find out that it has been taken for repairs.

Next stop Fairbanks.
