Carmacks to Moose Creek June 15th - 16th
Heading north, the next place is Stewart Crossing, not much there but a rest stop and a fuel station. Moose Creek Campground is thirty km. past Stewart Crossing. There is eleven km. of road work on the way. They use water to keep the dust down, that turns into mud. It is a lot thicker that the photos show.
Our campsite at Moose Creek
We had been planning on going to Mayo, which is east of Stewart Crossing, but with the mud, we were not too sure. Next morning was nice so of to Mayo we went.
The mud wasn't quit as bad and we got through the construction quickly. It's a nice drive along the Stewart River, some good scenery. This bear is the first we have seen in many a mile, it was just out of Mayo. Thought we might have lunch in Mayo but there are no eateries here. Had to buy a sandwich at the grocery, general store. All in all, a very nice day.The weather has been pretty good, still using the furnace in the mornings. We have been able to sit outside most days.
When we were here in 2021 and 2022, we noted that there were very few freight trucks on the roads. We wondered at the time, where they were getting their supplies from? Not this year, there are tons of trucks on the roads, quite a difference.
So far the mosquitoes have not been bad, they will most likely worsen as the weather gets warmer.
Off to Dawson City.
